• Let them know that they will feel pressure changes similar to going up quickly in an elevator, etc.
• Tell them not to swallow or talk during the test
• Remind them that no response is required

Tympanometry (Continued) • Be sure to get a good hermetic seal
• In order to check it, raise the pressure to +100 and see if it holds
• If not…may have a slow leak and you need to reposition the probe
• Once seal is achieved set bridge to tympanogram

Tympanometry (Continued) • Slowly increase pressure to +200
• Slowly decrease pressure to –200
• Most newer machines have a preprogrammed protocol to run automatically when a seal is achieved
