• The newest of the audiological battery • There are three types of OAEs –Transient echo* –Distortion product* –Spontaneous

*these are used clinically

Otoacoustic Emissions System • Otoacoustic emissions are not a measure of hearing

• Absence of OAE responses does not mean there is no hearing; presence of OAE response does not mean hearing is present

• OAEs provide more information that can be used in combination with other tests to develop a clinical picture
