Immittance Measures • Acoustic immittance refers to an acoustic energy transfer (the pressure sound waves place on the eardrum)

• When enough sound pressure is exerted, the middle and inner ear systems are set into motion

• Measurements are made at the probe tip and not the eardrum, equipment must subtract out acoustic immittance of ear canal volume to infer middle ear function alone

• An immittance meter is a device used to measure middle ear function

• An immittance meter may include a tympanogram, acoustic reflex thresholds, and acoustic reflex decay

• There are many different models and functions vary
