Pure Tone Testing • Typically test 250 Hz to 8,000 Hz • Many people begin with 1,000 Hz • Mid-octaves (750 Hz, 1.5k Hz, 3k Hz, 6k Hz) are tested when there is a difference of 20 dB or more between thresholds • Some clinics test 3k and 6k Hz with every hearing test (can help with programming hearing aids) • Measures entire system (outer, middle, inner ear)

Pure Tones • Can give instructions prior to headphone or insert phone placement or through headphones/ inserts • Give instructions with hearing aids on to assure best comprehension if headphones/ inserts are not in place • Try to start with "better ear" • Is often helpful to know if the patient has tinnitus
