These products included multidisciplinary evidence based clinical practice guidelines, specialty-specific clinical practice guidelines, consensus-based guidelines, and performance measures based on evidence-based guidelines. In the 2010 Annual Report, Dr. Nielsen highlighted three areas of focus for the Academy’s work in research and quality. These included 1) support and encourage basic and clinical research; 2) support the development of relevant, validated, and physician-driven quality initiatives, evidence-based guidelines, and measures of physician performance; and 3) maintain focus on patient centered care and ensuring that the work truly improves patient outcomes. To that end, one of the first highlights of this timeframe was the Quality in Otolaryngology Conference held in July 2007. In promoting the conference to members and
