Academy’s advocacy efforts when negotiating on our members’ behalf regarding national policies. In 2016, the Academy developed a Private Payer Toolkit to assist members when working with medical directors to address localized denials. The toolkit included template appeal letters, advocacy statements, Position Statements, Clinical Indicators, CPT for ENTs, and more. Advocacy’s Day-to-Day Action

Throughout this timeframe, the AAO-HNS, often collaborating with other national and state societies, communicated the Academy’s position in letters, testimony, and with member action alerts in the following areas: protecting patient safety and opposing harmful scope of practice expansions by nonphysicians; alerting state health officials and consumers about the potential dangers of online hearing aid sales; eliminating archaic prohibitions on physician dispensing hearing aids; opposing ill-advised changes to hearing aid licensure laws; defeating unfair cosmetic surgery/medical procedure taxes;

offering a periodic table that provided an easier way for members to access all the Foundation’s education and knowledge products. The “elements” provided access to each learning resource. Similar to the chemical elements in the periodic table, each element is also grouped with others of a like type. In the case of the AcademyU periodic table, the groupings included live events, subscriptions, online courses and lectures, eBooks, and knowledge resources based on the formats that appeal to the diverse education needs and learning styles of members. AcademyU is the window into all the education opportunities available to you as a member of the Academy. This era saw great investment of time, expertise, and resources to keep the AAO-HNSF at the cutting-edge of delivering relevant education content to members and the specialty as a whole. The diversity of offerings provided by the Foundation had previously made it challenging for busy practitioners to quickly find what they need. To meet this challenge, the program was rebranded as AcademyU, Your Otolaryngology Education Source,
