March 19, 2016: The new AAO-HNSF Historical Library was unveiled during the Leadership Forum & BOG Spring Meeting. The library, located on the fifth floor of the Academy headquarters, has nearly 700 historical documents related to the field of otolaryngology, including books, oral histories, drawings, pictures, and medical devices.

Determining Education Gaps and Needs in Relation to CPGs – the key action statements of each CPG would be used in designing new education activities. The goal was to incorporate CPG recommendations into Education Committee activity, topic, and format selections 2. Marketing and Distributing Guidelines Education Activities led to the development of the idea for a slide deck for each CPG as a tool for clinicians 3. Education Representation and Participation in Guideline Development: an education representative would serve on the Guideline Development Task Force and on each of the CPG development groups 4. Ensuring Compliance with New Education Activities – it was critical that newly developed education and knowledge resources be compliant with CPGs 5. Faculty Development and Training – developed author guidelines and training tools that included instructions on how to develop content that is compliant with CPGs 2016: The WIO Section Leadership Training Program was launched at AAO-HNSF 2016 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO in San Diego, California. “I am exceedingly pleased that our Academy will be launching a formal, long-lasting leadership development program in 2017. The Women in Otolaryngology Section program is providing a template, and the inclusion of otolaryngologists from all backgrounds will make this a robust course that enables individuals to recognize their own leadership potential.” – Dr. Chandrasekhar, July 2016 Bulletin

In April 2015, Dr. Denneny announced that Sonya Malekzadeh, MD, outgoing Coordinator for Education, would be leading the AAO-HNSF MOC/Curricula Task Force to evaluate the feasibility of producing this valuable roadmap for both primary and continuing education programs. It would include the involvement and representation of multiple stakeholders including specialty societies, the ABOto, AADO, OPDO, and SUO. “The obvious need and benefit of having a unified, up-to-date curriculum for otolaryngology has been recognized for some time…This massive project will benefit not only current trainees but also practicing otolaryngologists as they pursue MOC requirements,” he said. More Milestones in 2015: A Bigger and Better AcademyU and ACCME Accreditation with Commendation The new AcademyU digital learning platform, which was launched in September 2015 and took into consideration all the feedback from the Education Needs Assessment Initiative, was learner focused, personalized, social, user-friendly, searchable, and flexible. It was designed to accommodate future technological advances enhancing interactive learning on a variety of formats, including mobile devices.
