LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

interconnected, even to seemingly remote areas…I am confident that our International Task Force will identify ways to strengthen the valuable role that our Academy plays in the care of otolaryngology patients worldwide.” The International Task Force was charged with developing a strategic plan for International Affairs and making recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Task Force presented in 2016 a comprehensive report after almost a year of study that identified a number of opportunities to increase international involvement in collaboration with the global otolaryngology community. One essential outcome of the Task Force was the AAO-HNSF International Symposium, a new Annual Meeting forum designed to showcase cutting edge content. The inaugural event, which was held at the 2016 Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, provided a global perspective of challenges, treatments, and techniques through more than 20 education sessions and six posters presented by colleagues from around the world. Programmatic Changes In 2013, additional adjustments to the program were implemented to ensure attendees could maximize their learning opportunities. Posters were viewable electronically via desktop or the Annual Meeting mobile app. In addition, the scientific oral presentations changed their format to quick shot talks with three minutes for the oral presentation and two minutes for questions and answers. These changes were based on feedback received from attendees from previous years. Further programmatic changes occurred in 2015 to enhance attendee experience and better meet professional needs. The Scientific Program and Instruction Courses were blended to run simultaneously, which allowed for more uninterrupted time in the OTO EXPO, and a new registration pricing was implemented that included Instruction Courses in the regular registration fee offering access to more than 500 hours of education. Also in 2015, the newest Section of the AAO-HNS, the Young Physician Section, held its first Section

Academy Central became an important element at the Annual Meetings for attendees to learn more about the programs and services offered through the AAO-HNS/F.

2016: A new appointed YPS leadership liaison was created with the American Board of Otolaryngology. Also, in an effort to identify liaisons with individual state societies, a YPS State Delegates program was started in collaboration with the BOG.
