2016: AAO-HNSF Nikhil J. Bhatt, MD International Humanitarian Award and the Nikhil J. Bhatt, MD International Public Service Award were established by Dr. Bhatt who completed his tenure as Coordinator for Development on September 30, 2015.
MD, and Richard V. Smith, MD, Coordinators for Education, chose these sessions based on critical and timely topics of great relevance to AAO-HNS members that were presented by key leaders in the field. This inaugural education activity continued to be populated for years to come. Concluding Thoughts Staying on the cutting edge of innovation was a mantra that spanned both Dr. Nielsen’s and Dr. Denneny’s leadership styles that also permeated through the Boards of Directors, committee leadership, and staff. “There is nothing wrong with doing things transitionally or staying with tried and true methods and policies. But we should do them because we have considered the alternatives, examined the options, and can confirm that the traditional policy is superior. We should not adopt the usual methods just because we are too lazy, fearful, or busy to consider improving,” shared Dr. Nielsen in the March 2012 Bulletin . General Assembly meeting at the AAO-HNSF 2015 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO SM in Dallas, Texas. The Annual Meeting continued to evolve in 2016 to meet the needs of its attendees. In response to member feedback, the Academy added a mobile app with more features and program information than previous years, the Hands-On Salivary Endoscopy Course, Lunch with the Experts, WIO Sunrise Yoga, and OTOs on the Run 5K as well as highlighted simulation and community outreach. Debuting in 2016 was the new track called the International Symposium. This track, included within the education program, focused on topics generated by international colleagues. The symposium kicked off with an official ribbon cutting ceremony on September 18, followed by the Global Otolaryngology opening session. The all-new International Symposium showcased cutting-edge content, including Instruction Courses and Miniseminars, presented by international physicians. “This is a wonderful opportunity to hear from the world’s leading experts on a wide variety of clinical topics, ranging from state-of-the-art technology, such as robotic surgery or endoscopic ear surgery, to
