LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE
We are in an age now where we must find a balance of how we can maximize digital technology, discussions with our primary care colleagues, patient portals, practice websites, waiting room information, and now the AAO-HNSF website ENThealth. org, to empower our patients to proactively partner in their care. I see patient involvement with their care—complemented by the right knowledge that we provide (in a variety of ways)— as an opportunity that may enable us to better serve our patients.” – Duane J. Taylor, MD, 2019-2020 President, November 2019 Bulletin
our members and help them achieve excellence and provide high-quality, evidence-informed, and equitable ear, nose, and throat care. We will lead the way in advocacy for legislative, regulatory, and payer issues for otolaryngologists. We will work to support and improve the efficiency and success of otolaryngology practice. We will continue to lead and collaborate with the global otolaryngology community to advance otolaryngology through education initiatives.” The robust 125-year history of the AAO-HNS/F is comprised of a bountiful of exceptional leaders who built a strong infrastructure and foundation to support the practice of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. From the first days in 1896, the common denominator to the Academy’s extensive efforts and achievements has been the hundreds of volunteers creating education products, developing new medical and surgical treatments, researching new frontiers that allow improvement in care and then providing that care consistently to patients across the United States and around the world, and so much more. It is because of the Academy’s engaged membership base that the AAO-HNS/F has evolved to one of the most dynamic and innovative specialties in medicine.
To further the reach to the public, the Academy launched the ENThealth.org Twitter account @BeENTsmart – a social media channel that distributed information about ear, nose, and throat related conditions and treatments as well as wellness and prevention tips. CONCLUDING THOUGHTS With a laser focus on its mission and vision, the Academy has achieved a great many milestones throughout its history because of the people that compose this organization –a fact demonstrated time and time again throughout the 125-year history. And it will be that same commitment and perseverance to the specialty and patient care, demonstrated by countless volunteer members, that will result in future achievement in advances of the specialty. In the March 2021 Bulletin , Dr. Bradford said, “I am really excited about where we are going as an organization. I am very grateful for you, our members, our committees, our Academy staff, and our leadership team. We are extraordinarily well positioned for a very bright future together. I look forward to working with all of you to realize our vision.” She further posited in the July 2021 Bulletin, “We really need each other in order to succeed. Our members represent all demographics, all practice types, and our global community. We must learn from one another so that we can realize our core purpose: to engage
