Pure Tone Testing • Typically test 250 Hz to 8,000 Hz • Many people begin with 1,000 Hz and then test octaves • 1,000 Hz has high test — retest reliability • Mid-octaves are tested when there is a difference of 20 dB or more between octave thresholds

Pure Tone Testing (Continued) • Begin at 1kHz at 30 dB HL • Go up 10 dB until the patient responds

• After a response, go down 10 dB until no response • Go up 5 dB and then down 10 dB until threshold is bracketed (50%) • Must cross threshold 3 times • Record on audiogram and move to next frequency
