• Can tell patient they may feel a change in pressure (like going up in an elevator) and may hear a low tone

• Tell them not to swallow or talk during the test

• Remind them that no response is required

Testing- Automatic

• After otoscopic examination, select a probe tip that will fit the size of the patient's ear canal • Be sure to get a good seal for pressure • Most tympanometers automatically run when seal is achieved • Testing takes 5-10 seconds
