Why Modifier -25 matters

Modifier -25 is used when a patient receives a significant, separately identifiable office visit and another procedure or service on the same day. CMS’s proposal would cut payment for additional, applicable same-day services to 50%, directly and arbitrarily reducing payment for care reported with Modifier -25.

Our survey found the proposed cuts would have far-reaching consequences for patient access to medically necessary care.
